Trump sworn in as 47th president and signs a raft of executive orders on day one

Donald Trump was sworn in on January 20 as the 47th president of the United States, in the Capitol Rotunda, where the ceremony was moved because of low temperatures. JD Vance took the vice-presidential oath.
In his inaugural address Trump announced a "golden age of America", said the US would "take back" the Panama Canal and that the Gulf of Mexico would be renamed the Gulf of America.
First executive orders
The same day he signed executive orders withdrawing the US from the Paris climate agreement and the World Health Organization, declaring an emergency on the southern border and starting the process of designating drug cartels as terrorist organisations. He pardoned around 1,500 people charged or convicted over the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol and paused foreign development aid programmes for 90 days for review.
