Editorial principles
Military Affairs follows internationally recognised standards of journalistic ethics, including the Code of Ethics of the News Media Council of Thailand, the IFJ Global Charter of Ethics for Journalists, and the Trust Project's transparency principles.
1. Accuracy
We publish only information we have verified or that comes from clearly identified, credible sources. Where information is unconfirmed, we say so explicitly.
2. Separating fact from opinion
Every piece is labelled by type: news (Telegraph wire, Perpetuum), analysis (Long reads) or commentary. An author's opinion is never presented as fact.
3. Sources
We cite primary sources wherever possible in the Sources and references section at the end of an article. Anonymous sources are used only exceptionally, where the information is in the public interest and the source would otherwise be at risk; the identity of such a source is known to the editor.
4. Fairness and impartiality
On contested issues we strive to present the relevant perspectives. A person or institution facing a serious allegation is given an opportunity to respond before publication.
5. Conflict reporting
We take particular care to respect the dignity of victims. We do not publish distressing images without a clear journalistic reason and a warning. We do not publish information that could endanger civilians or reveal the positions or identities of people in a conflict zone. Propaganda claims by warring parties are clearly marked as claims.
6. Independence
Editorial decisions are made independently of owners, advertisers and political actors. Authors must declare any conflict of interest.
7. Bylines
Articles normally carry the author's name. Exceptionally, where a byline could endanger the author's safety, an article is published unsigned and the editorial board takes responsibility for it.
8. Use of artificial intelligence
AI tools may assist with translation, proofreading and research, but every article is reviewed and approved by an editor before publication. We do not publish AI-generated images as authentic depictions of events.
9. Corrections
We correct errors promptly and transparently, in line with our corrections policy.
