Six hours of martial law in South Korea: parliament lifts it 190–0, opposition seeks Yoon's impeachment

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared emergency martial law at 10:27 p.m. local time on December 3, accusing the opposition of "anti-state activities" and sympathy for North Korea. It was the country's first martial law since 1980.
The decree banned all political activity and placed the media under the control of the martial law command. Soldiers tried to enter the National Assembly building, but 190 lawmakers managed to gather and, at around 1 a.m., voted unanimously to lift martial law. Yoon withdrew the order at around 4:30 a.m. after a cabinet meeting.
Impeachment motion
Opposition parties led by the Democratic Party filed an impeachment motion against the president on December 4, and Defence Minister Kim Yong-hyun offered his resignation. Some lawmakers from Yoon's own People Power Party also condemned the declaration.
