Donald Trump wins the election and returns to the White House, Republicans take the Senate

Donald Trump won the US presidential election held on November 5, defeating the Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, according to projections by the AP and leading US media. Trump crossed the 270 electoral vote threshold by winning key swing states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina.
Trump will be sworn in on January 20, 2025 as the 47th president of the United States, with JD Vance as vice president. It will be the first comeback by a president after a break since Grover Cleveland, elected in 1892. Republicans also won a majority in the Senate.
What it means for Ukraine and NATO
During the campaign Trump claimed the war in Ukraine could be ended "in 24 hours" and criticised the scale of US aid to Kyiv, while urging NATO allies to spend more on defence. European governments announced consultations on how to take on a larger share of the burden.
