Hezbollah confirms Hassan Nasrallah killed in Israeli strike on Beirut

Hezbollah confirmed on September 28 that its secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli air strike on Beirut's southern suburbs, hours after the Israeli military announced it had eliminated him. The strike on an underground headquarters beneath residential buildings in the Haret Hreik district was carried out on the evening of September 27.
According to the Israeli military, the commander of Hezbollah's southern front, Ali Karaki, was also killed. Iranian media reported that Revolutionary Guards deputy commander Abbas Nilforoushan died as well. The collapse of several buildings caused heavy civilian casualties, the number of which is not yet known.
Two weeks of strikes
The killing followed a series of blows against Hezbollah: on September 17 and 18 thousands of pagers and radios belonging to its members exploded, killing dozens and wounding thousands; on September 20 Radwan forces commander Ibrahim Aqil was killed, and on September 23 Israeli strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon killed hundreds.
