Iran attacked Israel directly from its own territory for the first time in history on the night of April 13–14, launching, according to the Israeli military, about 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles and more than 120 ballistic missiles. The Israeli military says 99 percent of the projectiles were intercepted.

Several ballistic missiles struck the area of Nevatim air base in the Negev desert, where, according to Israel, minor damage was caused. A seven-year-old girl from the Bedouin community in southern Israel was seriously injured.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards named the operation "True Promise" and said it was a response to the April 1 strike on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus, which killed General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of the Quds Force for Syria and Lebanon. Israel has not officially claimed responsibility for that strike.

A coalition in the air

Besides Israel's air defences, US and British fighter jets and warships, French forces and Jordan, which shot down drones over its own territory, took part in the interceptions. Iran's mission to the UN said "the matter can be deemed concluded" if Israel does not respond.
