Police search Zabela prison over suspected vote-buying

Officers of the Criminal Police Directorate searched the Zabela correctional facility in Požarevac on Wednesday, on the orders of the special anti-corruption department of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo, Danas and Vreme report.
The prosecutor's office says "there are grounds for suspicion that several officials of this prison committed a criminal offence" of abuse of office and giving and receiving bribes in connection with voting. The suspects have not been named, and the prosecutor's statement does not mention any party.
Cigarettes for votes?
A large quantity of cigarettes was found in one room, which according to Danas had not been distributed to prisoners. The paper's unnamed sources claim prisoners received one or two cartons of cigarettes for voting for the SNS, but these claims have not been officially confirmed.
