Vučić dissolves parliament and calls snap parliamentary election for October 25

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić signed a decree on September 9 dissolving the National Assembly and called a snap parliamentary election for Sunday, October 25, public broadcaster RTS and then the presidency announced.
The election was called after almost two years of protests and blockades that began after the collapse of the canopy at Novi Sad railway station on November 1, 2024. Students in blockade had made a snap election one of their key demands and announced their own electoral list.
What comes next
With the election called, deadlines begin to run for submitting lists to the Republic Electoral Commission. The ruling Serbian Progressive Party has governed since 2012, and the vote will be the first direct test of strength between the government and the student movement.
