NASA astronaut Anil Menon and Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk installed the last of eight new solar arrays on the International Space Station on November 5, NASA said. The spacewalk lasted 6 hours and 59 minutes.
Each new array produces about eight kilowatts and is about 63 feet (19 metres) long when unrolled. With them, the station's capacity rose from 160 to about 215 kilowatts. The project ran from 2021 and required 18 earlier spacewalks.
"Today marks the completion of not just one solar array, but over 15 years of development efforts," Menon said.
