US President Donald Trump signed the "American Declaration of Freedom in Space" on November 3, SpacePolicyOnline reports. The document declares space "the province of all humans" and open to a permanent American presence.
The declaration is a statement of aims and contains no directives to agencies or funding. NASA linked it to Artemis III in 2027, a return to the lunar surface in 2028 and a future Moon base.
Former National Space Council executive secretary Scott Pace said the text is "fully consistent with international space law".
