Three ballistic missiles hit a training centre at the al-Alam military camp in Jardan district, north of Ataq in Yemen's Shabwah province, on October 19, killing 58 recruits and wounding more than 200, according to the governor.
Presidential Leadership Council head Rashad al-Alimi called it a terrorist attack and vowed a response, while Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani called it a war crime. The Houthis said they targeted a Saudi-led coalition site run by Saudi officers, but offered no evidence.
The war moves south
The attack shows that the Houthis, who have been advancing on the west coast and towards Bab el-Mandeb since September, can hit targets deep inside government-held territory, far from the front lines.
