Federal forces killed Édgar Aarón Vázquez Alvarado, known as "El General", founder of the Nuevo Imperio Cartel, in Lomas Verdes, Naucalpan, State of Mexico, on November 5, El Financiero and Infobae report. According to authorities, the forces were attacked while serving search warrants; two people died, the second of whom has not been identified.

"While repelling the attack, this individual lost his life… We do not forget Milton, his dedication and his commitment to the security of Mexico City and our country," wrote Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch. He named Vázquez as the alleged mastermind of the July 2024 killing of Mexico City police commander Milton Morales Figueroa in Coacalco.

The cartel

The cartel was founded in 2017 and operates in the State of Mexico, Mexico City and Morelos; its co-founder is in prison. Authorities link Vázquez to kidnapping, extortion, homicide, money laundering, fuel theft and drug trafficking to the US and Canada, which has not been tested in court. The US Treasury sanctioned him on November 19, 2025 for allegedly protecting Ryan James Wedding's network.
