De la Espriella launches "Operation Esparta" on the Venezuelan border and vows to keep bombing

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella launched "Esparta", a joint military and police campaign, in Cúcuta on the Venezuelan border on November 3, with about 1,200 army and police personnel, EFE reports. Marines will later join to control rivers, along with anti-drone equipment.
"This campaign is part of the national offensive I have ordered against narco-terrorist organisations," De la Espriella said. The targets are the ELN, the FARC dissidents' Front 33 and other groups, primarily in the Catatumbo region.
Attacks in Tolima, Huila and Cauca
From October 31 to November 1, five bomb attacks in Tolima, Huila and Cauca killed five people. In Planadas a blast near a military base killed four, including a two-month-old baby, and injured at least 15. On November 2 the government said it would keep bombing "legitimate military targets", intensify special operations and resume aerial fumigation of coca.
